The London Parks & Green Spaces Forum

Presentation of the London Parks & Green Spaces Forum, for a healthier and more sustainable world city

The London Parks and Green Spaces Forum’s mission is: “To promote a network of accessible quality green space, as a major contribution towards a healthier and more sustainable world city.” The Forum was established in response to an increased awareness of the importance of green space among those responsible for making and delivering national, regional and local policy. The objective is to maximise the opportunity that now presents itself and to make sure that London secures its fair share of resources that are being directed towards green space – now and in the future.

Addressing the issue of a much-needed investment in London’s parks and green spaces

The London Parks and Green Spaces Forum was established in 2001 through the combined efforts of a number of organisations that shared an interest and involvement in the delivery of park and green space services in and around London. While political awareness of the importance of open space has grown in recent years and much-needed investment is starting to flow to remedy decades of neglect, London’s parks and open spaces remain in the middle of a funding crisis. London’s parks revenue funding has been cut annually and this seems set to continue, at least in the short term. Reversing this trend is the key challenge for parks and green space managers. If it is not reversed, current improvements will be quickly undone and the decline will continue. Addressing this issue will remain a priority for the London Parks and Green Spaces Forum.
